The World Economic Forum ranks Vietnam the 80th best tourism destination among 139 countries, up from 89th in the previous Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report. Anybody who has traveled in Vietnam knows the country would rank much higher if it had better transportation.
The latest report highlights Vietnam’s cultural resources (for which Vietnam ranks 36th) and natural resources (24th) but says the country needs to improve its infrastructure.
The report notes Vietnam has competitive prices; several UNESCO-recognized World Heritage cultural sites, international fairs, and strong creative industries; and diverse wildlife and other natural resources.
Vietnam attracted six million visitors in 2011 and ranks 14th most competitive among Asia Pacific countries. The World Economic Forum’s top three global destinations: Switzerland, Germany, and France.
