Vietnam has the least take-home pay in Asia for expatriates (about $70,000), according to ECA International, but fringe benefits bring up the compensation to average for the region — nearly $150,000.
Expatriates in Japan receive the highest net take-home pay — $98,000 for a middle manager — followed by South Korea, Taiwan and Laos. Joining Vietnam at the bottom of the pay scale are China and India.
The story changes when considering the full benefits package. Including factors like accommodation, education, utilities, and cars, expats get the best package — and their employers pay the most — in Japan, Hong Kong, and Sinagpore, in that order.
Businesses deciding which markets to enter in Asia need to consider the following chart.
