Vietnam Plans its First Elevated Highway

Vietnam’s ambitious Binh Duong province, in the suburban Ho Chi Minh City metro area, is planning in 2014 to open an $800 million, 20-mile elevated highway, Vietnam’s first.

The four-lane highway is intended to facilitate rapidly increasing traffic between Vietnam’s largest city and the fast-growing industrial province and new city northwest of the country’s commercial hub.

Skeptics who wonder if construction will start on schedule next year need only look at before-and-after pictures of the province a decade ago (when it was farmland) and today as a modern industrial city.
