Vietnam plans to pull the plug on online gaming between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m., and the Ministry of Information and Communication is expected to closely watch gaming activities and cancel the services offered by violators. Online gaming companies say the new rules will make it more difficult to update and maintain their games.
A similar but less intrusive ban last year was accompanied by lax enforcement, but this time the government appears to consider the social threat of video games too great to tolerate late at night — another reminder of the difficulty of controlling the Internet in a country that wishes it could.
