Vietnamese in the Mood for Spending

As Vietnam joins the rest of Asia in attempting to reign in inflation, MasterCard’s semi-annual consumer confidence survey predicts Vietnam will lead Asia early this year in three top spending categories: Dining and Entertainment; Fashion and Accessories; and Fitness and Well-being.

The survey found China, Hong Kong, and India ranked highest in the percentage of consumers planning to increase their overall discretionary spending over the coming six months — whereas Vietnam ranked highest in percentage of consumers planning to maintain their level of discretionary funding.

Compared to the rest of Asia, Vietnam also ranks high in resilient categories for discretionary spending — spending likely to take place regardless of economic shocks — such as private tuition and extra curricular activities of children.
