Vietnam Consumers Focus on Health and Education

A TNS market research survey reveals consumers in Vietnam are more concerned about the health of themselves and their families than about the economy, and in this time of global economic woes they are unlikely to reduce spending on education.

Asked about their main fears in life, “health of my family” and “personal health” led the list, as they have since 2006, and unemployment and financial stability ranked lower.   A large portion of consumers said they reduced spending this year for virtually all products and services except education and health care products.

The economic downturn took a toll on the optimism of the Vietnamese; the percentage of people forecasting a better personal standard of living dropped from 70% a year ago to 36% early in 2009.
