The United States has announced it will open a consulate in the central Vietnamese city of Danang, creating a third official US presence in addition to the Embassy in Hanoi and the consulate in Ho Chi Minh City. This will coincide with the opening of a new Vietnamese consulate in Houston.
Seaside Danang, along with nearby Hoi An and Hue, attracts many international tourists, and Danang has been developing into an economic powerhouse capturing the interest of global investors.
The Houston consulate is expected to open later this month in the city with 85,000 overseas Vietnamese people, America’s third largest. Vietnam currently has a consulate in San Francisco and an embassy in Washington.
